Town Mayor, Cllr Murphy awards his Mayor's Cadets

8 October 2024

This week, Mayor of Diss, Cllr Kieran Murphy, had the pleasure of awarding his Mayor's Cadets at two special award presentations. Congratulations to Sgt Dobell and Sgt Williams from the Air Cadets, and CPL Eleanor Lamb from the Army Cadets, who have all been recognised for their outstanding dedication and contributions. Here’s a little bit about these incredible young leaders:

🔸 CPL Eleanor Lamb

CPL Lamb joined the Army Cadet Force in October 2021. Initially shy and reserved, Eleanor has transformed into a confident and capable leader. Over the last year, she has taken on the role of Section Leader, impressing instructors with her ability to lead under pressure during tactical exercises. Eleanor achieved a highly competent award in the Junior Cadet Instructor Course (JCIC), allowing her to mentor younger cadets - a role she loves. Beyond cadets, Eleanor is working towards her Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award and is known for her kindness, patience, and reliability.

🔸 Sgt Ruby Dobell

Sgt Dobell joined the Air Cadets in August 2022 and has made a significant impact in a short period. Committed and resilient, she has excelled in various activities, earning medals in swimming and completing her blue road marching badge. Sgt Dobell is also active in her community, serving on the board of her local Youth Council and volunteering at events like Park Runs. Her dedication and enthusiasm make her an inspiring role model.

Sgt Dobell said, “This is one step further into being involved in the community and I will take pride in assisting the Mayor of Diss at future events and any other undertaking of the role.”

🔸 Sgt Williams

Sgt Williams has been a dedicated member of the Air Cadets since September 2021. Known for his friendly and approachable nature, he has earned the respect and admiration of his peers, receiving the ‘Best Cadet’ and ‘Cadets’ Cadet’ awards. He has participated in numerous community activities, from assisting at local events to carrying the Squadron’s wreath during Remembrance parades. Sgt Williams is always willing to represent the cadets and serve his community with pride. On receiving his award, Sgt Williams said “I am absolutely honoured to have this opportunity to assist our Mayor and to help our local community as much as possible. Thank you.”

The Mayor’s Cadets will serve until May 2025, accompanying the Mayor at key events in the town, including the Remembrance Parade in November, the Christmas Lights Switch-On in December, and various fundraising events for the Mayor's chosen charity, Nelson’s Journey.
