Boardwalk and gardens

Diss’ floating boardwalk, terrace and wildlife garden were created as part of a project to improve public spaces in Diss and give priority to pedestrians. Previously an unused piece of land in the centre of Diss town, it now provides public access from the top of Market Hill to Mere Street.

From the terrace, there’s a panoramic view of the wildlife garden and Mere. A curved footpath then leads down to a wooden, floating boardwalk constructed on pontoons. These pontoons loop out into the Mere offering the sensation of walking over the water.

Access and opening hours

The gardens and boardwalk run from the rear of the Diss Town Council offices to King’s Head Yard. There are access points at both ends of the walk. The gates at the Diss Town Council office end are open from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 3.45pm Saturday and Sunday. The gates at King's Head Yard are open from 7am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 3.30pm Saturday and Sunday. The gates are set to automatically open and close at these times. To exit if gate is locked, please press button.

When using the boardwalk in wet or icy conditions, please note that the decking may become slippery.
