Diss Youth & Community Centre confirms extended temporary closure

19 December 2023

The Diss Youth & Community Centre (DYCC), located on Shelfanger Road, will remain temporarily closed to the public following further comprehensive structural assessments.

The recent roof drone survey has confirmed the presence of further Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) in the building, specifically in the roof structure above the main hall.

To ensure the safety of all occupants and visitors to the DYCC, extensive remedial work is required to address the RAAC issue. Unfortunately, this is not a quick-fix situation, and the anticipated timeframe for completion is estimated to be between 3 to 6 months.

During this period, the building will remain closed for public use, except for the reception area, toilets, and the space occupied by Park Radio Ltd. Regrettably, this means that we will be unable to accommodate hiring of any of the remaining spaces in the building during the closure. Some of our regular hirers are operating in alternative venues in the meantime.

Diss Town Council is committed to resolving this issue and will be prioritising the necessary works. However, due to the complexity of the required work, involving numerous outside contractors, there is a possibility of additional delays in completing the remedial measures.

The safety and well-being of our community members remain our top priority and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this challenging time.

The Diss Litterpicking Group will continue to meet every second Saturday of the month operating from the DYCC car park and the Diss Community Fridge project will trial the use of the reception area in the New Year.

Help to minimise food waste this Christmas by visiting the Diss Community Fridge at The Salvation Army Community Hall on Sunnyside between 5pm – 6.30pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
