Diss Town Council supports life-saving action with new bleed control kits

9 July 2025

Diss Town Council is proud to support the installation of four new public access Bleed Control Kits across the town, made possible through local funding provided by County Councillor Keith Kiddie.

The kits – which can be used to help control catastrophic bleeding in the crucial minutes before emergency services arrive – are being installed alongside existing public defibrillators at:

  • Fair Green

  • The Corn Hall

  • Diss Football Club

  • Diss High School

This important project forms part of a broader commitment to improving public safety and emergency readiness in Diss.

To ensure residents know how to use the kits effectively, a free Public Bleed Awareness Session will be held on:

Friday 1st August 2025, 11:00am – 1:00pm. Upstairs at No.8 Marketplace, Diss, IP22 4AV

Delivered by Street First Aid, this hands-on session will provide practical guidance on how to recognise and respond to life-threatening bleeding – one of the leading causes of preventable death in knife and trauma incidents.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Recognise and respond to catastrophic bleeding

  • Use a Public Access Bleed Control Kit step by step

  • Apply street-smart first aid when no equipment is available

  • Stay safe while helping in public incidents

All are welcome – parents, teachers, young people, business owners, and anyone wanting to be prepared to save a life.

Cllr Kiddie said: "When someone suffers a traumatic injury, every second counts. These kits, and the knowledge to use them, could mean the difference between life and death. I’m proud to have supported this initiative and urge everyone to attend the training session."
