Town Councillor of the Year Nominee

23 July 2024

Eric Taylor, who has served as one of your Diss Town Councillors for over six years, was recently nominated for a South Norfolk Community Award 2024. Given to a Town or Parish Councillor within the District who has shown commitment and service to their community, Eric was nominated for ‘championing Diss, especially in planning matters and for having a passion to get the best results for the people of Diss’.

He was Chair of the Council’s Planning Committee until this year and has been instrumental in developing and delivering a now ‘adopted’ Neighbourhood Plan not only for Diss but the local area including six other parishes and across two District Councils. Eric remains the Council’s Vice-Chair of Planning and Infrastructure committee and continues to be an active member of the Diss & District Neighbourhood Plan’s new Monitoring and Review Group. He said, “I joined the DDNP Steering Group because of my passion to see Diss grow in a structured way with the right amount of good quality development in the right place. I also wanted to influence the need for better infrastructure to cater for the growth in Diss. I am passionate about all things Diss and I want the town to prosper and grow whilst retaining its individuality and unique character.”

Eric has also been the Town Mayor for two years and during this time, raised over £2,000 for four different charities. He is extremely hardworking, volunteering for everything he can, friendly, always approachable to residents and is a thoroughly good person.

Whilst Eric did not win the award, the judging panel was impressed by the commitment he makes to supporting others and thanked him for his hard work and dedication to the community of South Norfolk.

Congratulations Eric and thank you for everything you do to support your community.
