Skate Park Refurbishment Approved
16 January 2026
Diss Town Council has approved investment to refurbish the town’s Skate Park, located at the Sports Ground on Shelfanger Road. The facility, which was originally installed over 20 years ago, is set to receive essential upgrades to extend its lifespan and improve safety for users.
A grant application has been submitted to the National Lottery Community Fund to help offset the costs of the project. Funding will also be supported through Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) monies received from local developments to help meet growing infrastructure needs.
The refurbishment will focus on upgrading the riding surfaces to create a safer, more durable facility. These improvements will restore access to a much-loved recreational space that promotes physical activity, creativity and mental wellbeing, particularly for young people. The project will ensure this free-to-use facility remains available to families during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and can be enjoyed for many years to come.
Diss Town Council has been working closely with the Diss Skatepark User Group, which represents skaters, scooter riders and BMX users. The group formed when the skate park was forced to close early last year due to the extent of repairs required. Since then, members have played an active role in shaping the project by attending Town Council meetings, reviewing contractor proposals and providing valuable feedback on repair options.
The refurbishment works are expected to take place in early spring. Until then, the skate park will remain closed and secured with Heras fencing to ensure public safety. Once reopened, the User Group plans to organise inclusive events to encourage use of the facility, promote unity and diversity, and raise funds for future improvements.
This project demonstrates the continued commitment of Diss Town Council and the local community to protecting and enhancing this important recreational space for future generations.
