Send in your nominations for Diss’ Citizen Awards 2022

20 January 2022

The nominations for Diss’ Honoured Citizen and Junior Good Citizen awards 2022 are now open.

These annual awards have been running since 1994 and are given to individuals who go above and beyond to help our community. Last year our winners were funeral director, Anne Beckett-Allen, and Diss High School student, Lily Mills. This year’s winners are in your hands.

The deadline is 12pm on 28th February and here’s all the info you need make your own nomination.

A chance to say thank you

The past few years have been particularly tough. But, despite the many challenges, Diss’ unique community spirit has shone through. From individual acts of kindness to organised programmes of support, the wellbeing of others kept the heart of our town beating hard and strong.

At the Town Council, we regularly witness many examples of kindness, generosity and strength in the face of adversity. And we’re sure you did too. So, if you’d like to pay tribute to someone who went above and beyond for our community, now’s your chance.

The two award categories are:

Junior Good Citizen – for any young person of school age who goes to school in Diss.

Honoured Citizen – for anyone else.

Nominees can include people who run a club, raise funds for charities or individuals who are always there to help neighbours or vulnerable people in the community.

How do I nominate?

To nominate you should submit a nomination form which includes:

· information about the person you are nominating

· your reason for nominating them, and

· details of the two people proposing the nomination. Both proposers should be residents of Diss and cannot be serving members of the Town Council (for the Honoured Citizen award this cannot be a relative).

Where do I send my form?

To submit your nomination, you can either:

· print and fill in a nomination form and send it to Diss Town Council, 11 Market Hill, Diss, IP22 4JZ

· or fill a nomination form in online and email it to: towncouncil@diss.gov.uk

What happens next?

After the deadline on 28th February, Full Council will review all nominations and decide on a recipient for each category. Presentation of both awards will be made by the Town Mayor at the Annual Town Meeting on Wednesday 27th April. Both recipients will receive a framed certificate and have his/her name inscribed on a Roll of Honour board in The Corn Hall.

We've been recognising our community heroes since 1994 and we can’t wait to receive your nominations for this very challenging year. We know there are lots of worthy nominees out there so please send in your nomination and help us pay tribute to them. If you have any questions, please do email us at towncouncil@diss.gov.uk.
