Recent Achievements

Over recent months, a number of important projects have been completed across the town.

Improvements have been made to the Heritage Wildlife Garden through new planting and biodiversity enhancements, while aquatic planting in the Park has helped improve water quality and create better habitats for wildlife.

Tree management works have also been carried out, including measures to improve visibility around St Mary's Church. Access improvements in the Park will support both events and ongoing maintenance, and new self-watering planters have been installed in key town centre locations.

In addition, year-end financial transfers and reserves have been agreed to help support future community investment.

Current and Upcoming Projects

Diss Town Council continues to make progress on a range of initiatives designed to enhance community facilities, the local environment and town infrastructure.

Work is continuing on proposals for the Diss Youth & Community Centre project, while discussions with partners are helping to identify solutions to improve drainage and water quality in the Mere. Opportunities are also being explored to strengthen links between the new leisure centre and the Park, including the provision of covered community space.

Environmental projects remain a key priority. Plans are underway to refresh the town centre planter scheme with support from a new volunteer group, and a new tree planting programme is scheduled for Rectory Meadow this autumn. The Council is also working alongside Norfolk Wildlife Trust to enhance biodiversity across its sites.

In terms of infrastructure, funding opportunities are being sought for a new electric utility vehicle to support town centre maintenance. We are also supporting approved streetlighting improvements linked to the Shelfanger Road development and exploring potential community uses for the former portacabin at the Shelfanger Road car park.
