Planning Starts for Remembrance Day & 80th Anniversary of World War II

23 July 2024

Following the very well-attended and poignant ceremony to commemorate 80 years since D-Day on 6th June, representatives of the Diss & District Royal British Legion, Royal Air Force Association, Salvation Army, Diss High School, 1st Diss Scouts and Diss Town Council have re-united to start planning the town’s annual Remembrance events and 80th anniversary of World War II.

The Remembrance parade and ceremony will take place on Sunday 10th November followed by a gathering on the Market Place on Monday 11thNovember at 11am to mark the end of World War I.

2025 marks 80 years since Victory in Europe (VE Day) and end of World War II (Victory in Japan). Between 8thMay and 15th August next year, the town will come together to remember the millions who paid the ultimate sacrifice fighting and securing the freedom we all enjoy today and celebrate the peace after six years of war.

There are plenty of ways you can get involved in these events. If you have a military vehicle you’d like to display, have connections with the Armed Forces, or would like to volunteer your time to support the organising committee, we’d love to hear from you.

Diss Town Council has committed to honour the Armed Forces Covenant and support the Armed Forces Community by recognising the value Serving Personnel, both Regular and Reservists, Veterans and military families contribute to our business and our country.
