New Mayor elected for Diss

29 May 2025

At the Full Council meeting held on 21st May, Diss Town Council elected Councillor Declan Craggs as Town Mayor for 2025–26.

Declan has been on the Council since March 2024. Declan runs a small business and is a governor for the Infant and Junior school of Diss.

Following his appointment, Declan said:  “It’s a real privilege and honour to be selected as Town Mayor. I’m looking forward to supporting Diss as a thriving and vibrant community. I recognise that there are always improvements to be made, and I will work with local organisations, councils and local people to ensure we get the best outcomes possible. I’d also like to extend my thanks to the outgoing Mayor, Cllr Murphy, for his outstanding service and his remarkable efforts in raising funds for his chosen charity.”

For this mayoral year, Declan has chosen to support Friends of Diss Primary Academy Partnership PTA. Declan said “This charity raises money for young school children of Diss to support them getting to go on school trips, enjoy play equipment, access new book and countless other things.”

He’s already getting started on plans for a series of exciting fundraising activities including a car boot sale, carol concert and much more. More details to come!
