Progress is continuing on plans to improve water quality in Diss Mere following strong support at June's Full Council meeting. Residents, councillors, and specialists have met informally over the summer, with the inaugural meeting of the newly formed Diss Mere Water Quality Partnership due to take place this month. The Partnership has been established to coordinate efforts to better understand and improve the long-term health of the Mere.

More than a month's worth of monitoring data has already been collected, including measurements of dissolved oxygen levels at varying depths and water clarity. A digital information hub has also been created to support collaboration and information sharing. The Partnership is pleased to have secured support from the Diss & District Angling Club, the Community Climate Action team and several recognised experts, helping to guide future work to protect and enhance this important natural asset.

Alongside this work, the Council has continued to pursue concerns relating to longstanding obstructions along the Mere drain route, including beneath the Morrisons filling station site. Positive progress has recently been made through engagement with relevant partners and landowners, and discussions are ongoing to identify appropriate measures that could help improve the performance of the watercourse. The Council will continue to support efforts to enhance local drainage and reduce flood risk where possible.
