Mayor announces chosen charity for 2023-24
27 June 2023
At the meeting of Full Council on 17th May, Diss Town Council elected councillor Kieran Murphy as Mayor for 2023-2024.
Kieran is the youngest ever First Citizen of Diss and was only elected as one of three District Councillors for South Norfolk Council earlier this month.
On his appointment, Kieran said, “It was a real privilege to be chosen to hold the honour of Town Mayor. During my tenure I hope to encourage Diss to continue to be a thriving and vibrant town. I would like to thank the outgoing Mayor, Cllr Taylor for all the work he has put into being an outstanding representative for the town and his incredible fundraising efforts for his charities.
This year, I have chosen to support ‘Nelson’s Journey’, a local charity which helps children and young people in Norfolk who’ve experienced the death of a significant person. I know a few people who have been supported by Nelson’s Journey and they are a wonderful charity.”
Nelson’s Journey provide a range of resources and services and accept referrals from families and professionals for those who may need some support. Since 1997, Nelson’s Journey has helped thousands of bereaved children and young people in the county. Kieran is already planning his fundraising campaign to include a car boot sale on 6th August at Diss Park, a civic service and a carol concert in the lead up to Christmas and with bucket collections at other town events.
