A free event will be held in Diss park on Thursday 2 June from 4pm to 10.30pm to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Called ‘Glow in the Park’, the event will be hosted by Park Radio, and use light in some of its many forms to mark this special occasion. A children’s lantern procession, beacon lighting ceremony, spectacular firework display and street-theatre sensations, LED drumming troupe Spark!, will all make Diss “glow”. Plus, courtesy of event sponsor, Upp, there will be a fun, light reaction game for the kids and lots of light-themed giveaways.

The event starts at 4pm and finishes at 10.30pm. The lantern procession will take place at 9pm and will run from the market place to the park. This will be followed by the lighting of the beacon in the park at 9.45pm. A fireworks display rounds-up the event at 10pm. There will also be food and drink stalls (including a free “ice cream bike” provided by Upp), live music and a packed programme of street theatre and entertainment.

One of the highlights of ‘Glow in the Park’ will be a spectacular, choreographed fireworks display to close the event. This is thanks, in part, to Diss Town Council’s successful application for a National  Lottery ‘Awards for All’ grant and funding received from South Norfolk District Council.

“Funding from the National Lottery will cover many of the costs associated the event,” said Diss Town Clerk, Sarah Richards. “With this funding in place we are able to deliver a bigger and better event for the community, at reduced cost to the Diss taxpayer.”

‘Glow in the Park’ is free. And everyone’s welcome. For more information and announcements, please see the Diss Town Council Facebook page.
