Introducing your newest Town Councillor!

30 September 2026

A warm welcome to Councillor Stephen Willoughby, who was co-opted onto Diss Town Council at our September Council meeting, becoming our 11th member.

I moved to Diss in 2018, having retired from a career largely within academia. I have a Doctorate in Organometallic Chemistry, and for many years lectured in chemistry and related disciplines at a number of institutions, including the Open University. In later years I became a consultant to local authorities wishing to set up public information systems which were subsequently migrated to the World Wide Web when it came of age.

I have been the Neighbourhood Watch representative for my local area for a number of years, and have developed the role in a way so as to help foster a sense of community and to support it. Wherever possible we work together to find answers to problems that affect our community, and also to look for opportunities to improve our environment and facilities.

I have a keen interest in the music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, and am a singer, harpsichordist and organist. I also hold an amateur radio licence, and during the long winter evenings you might well find me working on elaborate cross stitching projects.

Being a Town Councillor is a great opportunity to get involved in your local community, have your say and help to make a difference.
