Members of the public are warmly invited to take part in two planned events to remember our fallen heroes.

The Diss Remembrance Sunday parade and service will take place on Sunday 14 November. The parade will leave Mere's Mouth at 2.15pm, and this year will be extended up Market Hill, around Weavers restaurant and then back down St Nicholas Street to end at St Mary's church. 

Representatives from over 35 local organisations will then be invited to lay wreaths at the war memorial outside the church. A service at St Mary’s will follow at 3pm.

There will also be a minute’s silence on the Market Place on Thursday 11 November at 11am led by the Reverend Tony Billett.

The organising committee (led by Diss Town Council) includes representatives from the Royal British Legion, St Mary’s church, and Parade Marshals from the Army and Air Cadets.

Town Clerk, Sarah Richards says, “We are pleased to be able to invite the public to line the street and watch the parade this year. Regrettably, due to COVID-19 and the restrictions around social gatherings, a larger public event was not possible last year.”

Both events will be managed in line with the government’s COVID-19 event planning guidance.

Please join us in honouring all those who sacrificed themselves to secure and protect our freedom.

In the planning of this year’s events, we also remember the late Jim Bidwell. Jim was a stalwart member of the Diss & District branch of The Royal British Legion who dedicated his time and energy to making Remembrance activities happen for many years. His presence on the committee this year has been sorely missed.
