An exciting update on the Diss Skatepark refurb!
20 March 2026
Diss’ much loved skatepark on Shelfanger Road is currently undergoing a major refurbishment, with works now well advanced and due for completion at the end of March. This upgrade follows the Town Council’s decision to invest in restoring and modernising the 20-year-old facility. Closed since early last year for safety reasons, the skatepark is receiving essential repairs to improve and renew its riding surfaces, ensuring it remains safe, durable and accessible for the community for many years to come.
We were thrilled to receive a grant from The National Lottery Community Fund, which, combined with the Council’s earmarked reserves and Community Infrastructure Levy contributions from local development, has enabled us to deliver this project cost‑effectively while boosting much‑needed recreational infrastructure for the community.
The refurbishment has been shaped in partnership with the Diss Skatepark User Group, formed when the park was forced to close. Representatives, including skaters, scooter riders and BMX users, have played an active role in reviewing proposals and giving feedback to ensure the upgrades reflect the needs of the community.
Once the skatepark reopens, the User Group plans to host community events celebrating the facility’s return and encouraging wider involvement. The refurbishment marks another step forward in the Council’s wider programme of improvement works across the town.
The contractor, Evolution Skateparks, has provided an update:
“We’re delighted to say that favourable weather has allowed us to maintain our anticipated schedule for this significant scope of works, which, alongside the much‑needed riding surface replacement, also addresses long‑standing issues with structural flex and distortion.
Week 1 (3rd - 6th) saw the removal of all damaged riding surfaces and a substantial amount of surface rust.
Week 2 (10th - 13th) saw the installation of 20 Skatelite Pro sheets in updated black, using bonded technology and upgraded mono bolts to reduce water ingress and surface flex. We also strengthened the half pipe foundation with 36 additional bearers.
Week 3 (18th - 20th) will include installing upper platform wear protection and completing the roll‑over ramp surfacing.
Week 4 (23rd - 27th) will complete the half pipe with a full substrate liner to improve rigidity, followed by installing 12 bonded and fastened Skatelite Pro sheets.
Please note:
The site remains closed, and although some equipment may appear finished, remedial works continue. Premature use is unsafe and may cause damage that delays completion.
Metal debris and unfinished areas remain on-site, so we strongly urge the public to keep out to avoid potential injury or damage.”
