COVID-19: A national day of reflection

19 March 2021

Council Services

Tuesday 23rd March 2021, marks a year since the UK’s first COVID lockdown. To honour those who have since died in the pandemic, a minute’s silence will be held across the country at midday on the 23rd.

A national doorstep vigil will also form part of a day. In the evening of the 23rd, people will be asked to help create a nationwide "beacon of remembrance" on their doorsteps by beaming phones, candles and torches into the night sky at 8pm.

Diss Town Council would like to encourage residents to join in with this nationwide tribute by taking a minute at 12 noon to add their own private reflections to those of others all around the country. And, by lighting up their doorsteps in the evening.

To keep the light of remembrance in commemoration of the pandemic burning, Diss's own “beacon of remembrance” will be installed in the park on June 21st 2021.
