Christmas Lights Switch-On - "most successful event to date"

16 December 2022

A huge thank you to everyone who supported this year’s Christmas Lights Switch-On.

Families came together on Saturday 3rd December to enjoy an afternoon of festivities which included a funfair at Mere’s Mouth, activities at the United Reformed Church along with Santa’s Grotto with performances from the Voice Squad outside, live music and entertainment on the main stage, and a selection of stallholders. Park Radio got everyone in the Christmas spirit with their festive playlist to start the afternoon and we all enjoyed live performances from Serena Grant, Joe & Jemma Aiken, Ben Langley and Reflections of Abba in the lead up to the big switch-on!

In keeping with traditions over the years, Santa travelled along Mere Street in his sleigh to the Market Place, accompanied by the Mayor of Diss, Mayor’s Cadet, Salvation Army Band, Dinsdale and Sleeping Beauty from Diss Corn Hall’s pantomime cast. Together, and with the help of Britain’s Got Talent star, Ben Langley, they arrived on stage to start the big countdown and finally, the wonderful Christmas lights came alive!

With attendance of over 1,000, the committee said it was their most successful event to date. A special thanks goes to everyone involved, from the volunteers and sponsors to the entertainment acts, stallholders and of course, all that attended! The community spirit radiated throughout the town.

The Corn Hall’s panto runs from 17th to 31st December. Tickets are still available at https://www.thecornhall.co.uk/shows/sleeping-beauty/
