You may have spotted a few welcome improvements around the town centre recently. Freshly painted railings, tidier borders around the Mere’s Mouth, overgrown planting cut back, new flowers appearing and neglected shopfronts looking a little smarter are all part of a growing effort to keep Diss looking its best.

These improvements have been made possible through the hard work of volunteers and mark the beginning of an exciting new community initiative – the Town Tidy.

Many residents are already familiar with the fantastic work carried out by our regular Diss litter-picking volunteers, who help keep our streets free from litter. The Town Tidy builds on that success by tackling all those other jobs that help make a real difference to the appearance of our town – from weeding and sweeping to removing outdated posters, refreshing street furniture and carrying out small maintenance tasks that brighten up our public spaces.

Supported by Diss Town Council, local partner organisations, the Heritage Trust and the newly launched Co/Lab, these volunteer sessions will take place once each season, with additional themed sessions planned throughout the year where residents identify specific projects that would benefit from community support.

The first Town Tidy session takes place on 18th July.. Volunteers can get involved with a variety of roles including weeding, pruning, litterpicking and general tidying around the town centre. Afterwards, refreshments and entertainment will be available for all volunteers at Diss Co/Lab in Norfolk House Yard.

Organisers hope the Town Tidy will become another successful community initiative that not only improves the look of Diss but also strengthens local pride and brings people together.
