Tribute to HRH the Duke of Edinburgh
9 April 2021
News
The staff and members of Diss Town Council are deeply saddened to hear of the death of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.
The Duke has served our country with great distinction throughout his life and our thoughts and deepest sympathy are with the Queen and the rest of the royal family at this sad time.
Accordingly, the council’s Union flag will be flown in line with protocol until the day following the funeral.
Book of condolence and other tributes
For those wishing to leave a message, a book of condolence will be available to physically sign at St Mary’s Church in Diss from Tuesday 13th April. Locations for all books of condolence in Norfolk can be found on the Norfolk County Council website. An e-book of condolence will be available on the official Royal website. All messages will be archived following the period of mourning.
Floral tributes may be laid on the Mere’s Mouth in the marked space where the former car parking spaces were situated. Residents are encouraged to observe social distancing rules and not to leave plastic or cellophane wrappings so that the flowers can be composted.
2-minute silence
There will be a 2-minute silence at the Market Place lead by the Town Mayor (Sonia Browne) on Saturday 17th April, the day of the funeral, at 11am, following strict Covid-19 guidelines.

On Friday 16th April at 6pm, St Mary's Church Diss will be livestreaming a Service of Commemoration for the life of Prince Philip. The service can be viewed on Youtube via Diss Team Ministry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EOS1mt7ozU
