Improving biodiversity in Diss
4 April 2025
We’ve stripped out the weeds, laid matting and introduced new greenery along the Lowes leading to the river Waveney to improve biodiversity and create a more vibrant, natural environment for everyone to enjoy. The old hedge at Rectory Meadow has been removed and a new green fence with two gates has been installed with a new planting scheme scheduled for the Autumn. Four new native trees will be planted to create seasonal interest and a source of pollen and berries for wildlife, interspersed with new easy-to-manage 2-metre length hedges to achieve the highest net biodiversity gain.
At the Assets, Infrastructure & Events meeting at the beginning of April, members considered a low-cost proposal to improve the appearance and biodiversity of the Park through a winter and spring flowering bulb display along Park Road in between the established trees.
These projects are all in support of our recently adopted Biodiversity policy and to improve the green corridor network around the town. Thank you to George Waterman for his help in delivering these projects for Diss.
